California BLN mentioned in Report to the President
"
People with Disabilities: Strengthening the 21st Century Workforce" was the final report of the Presidential Task Force on Employment of Adults with Disabilities. It was presented to the President of the United States on July 26, 2002. (complete text here) It included:
"
The California Business Leadership Network (CABLN), led by IBM, is structured to be resource-lean and time efficient.  Collaboratively staffed by IBM, the California Governor's Committee for Employment of Disabled Persons, and the California Department of Rehabilitation, rely heavily on the use of current information technology.  While lead companies host quarterly Educational Forums, members throughout the state are kept up-to-date on news, resources, and events through regular e-mailings.  A wealth of information has been compiled and is continually updated on the organization's web site at www.cabln.org.  The web site contains information to assist CABLN members in employing people with disabilities more successfully.  Comprehensive information and links to other web sites are available on such topics as disability-specific issues, employment issues (e.g. recruiting, interviewing, supervising, etc.), legal issues, tax incentives, and best business practices.  The web site also provides profiles and contact information for services provided by community-based organizations.  In keeping with the intent to maximize the use of information technology, CABLN has also partnered with RecruitABILITY, an internet-based résumé and job-posting site for people with disabilities."

Online Recruiting: Another Barrier to People With Disabilities?
From The Center for an Accessible Society:
"Recruiting on the Internet has become one of the primary ways that companies attempt to find employees, as proven by the over 28,500 websites vying for employer job postings and resumes. But a review of literature by Cornell University's Program on Employment and Disability in the School of Industrial and Labor Relations found web recruiting technology to be of mixed use to job applicants with disabilities... people with disabilities are less likely to have a computer and Internet access. Worse, according to one of the most comprehensive studies to date of Web accessibility, only 18 percent of the 100 most trafficked job recruiting Web sites were found to be accessible.

Access Technology - New Mouse
LEICESTER, England (Summary from Reuters) Scientists looking for ways to help blind people get more out of computers have developed a mouse that goes bump and combined it with sound representations of graphs that would otherwise be inaccessible. The mouse vibrates every time it meets a line on a graph, giving a blind operator a tactile tip-off. Like a form of "electronic Braille" it responds to one of the most daunting tasks facing visually impaired people - trying to assimilate information giving an overview of data or events. Reinforcing the tactile jolt of the mouse lines on a graph are represented by tones that would vary in pitch according to whether the line was rising or falling. Several such tones could be used to represent different lines of the same graph as the user entered a "soundscape." The technique could even be of use to sighted people such as share traders who could be alerted on their mobile phones by a tone representing a move up or down. Full Report
